The VSL 201 functions in conjunction with 1 or 2 analogue video cameras (PAL or NTSC format) and has three primary functions:
- Video / Graticule / Reticule / Grid Overlays, i.e. crosshairs, concentric boxes or circles
- Screen splitter, for comparing two images (from two cameras)
- Video measurement

- Twin crosshairs with measurement and text, configurable logic processor ARM CPU
- Moveable reticule and 2 concentric boxes, moveable reticule and 2 concentric circles
- Video line profiling, white / black reticules, solid or a selection of dashed reticules
- Horizontal split screen or vertical screen split, horizontal / vertical mirror image / flip
- 4 stored setups – powers up with setup-1
- Mouse driven (PS2 Socket) – unit effectively locked when mouse removed
- 12VDC input (2.1mm DC jack socket), 450mA
