HOOF INSPECTOR - Contact-free hoof health monitoring

HOOF INSPECTOR - Contact-free hoof health monitoring

Presenting a solution that provides continuous and contact-free monitoring of livestock hoof health. The system delivers temperature measurements of the surface of the hoof during normal walking, and it can be used for a wide variety of domesticated animals, including cows and horses. In cattle, inflammatory diseases increase surface temperatures around the hoof even before other external symptoms are evident – and before lameness and other serious health problems develop.

System Architecture
The system is designed so as to not interfere with normal stable and breeding operations. Monitoring is conducted in a contact-free manner at a sufficient distance and, in the system’s more complex iterations, it is completely unattended. In all cases, the system operates as the animal walks naturally as part of its daily regime, such as when it returns from a milking station.

Hoof Inspector Features
HOOF INSPECTOR - Contact-free hoof health monitoring

While the basic version of the system enables simple monitoring, it does require the operator to deliver an immediate evaluation of the animal’s health. However, more advanced versions of the system enable the creation of individual records in a database and, thanks to the wireless identification of individual animals, facilitates effective monitoring of the development of the health of individuals in real time. The system enables annotation and the delivery of judgments about the seriousness of the disease.

Operators can then evaluate the health status of individual animals at any time simply by referring to their records. They can also monitor the development of the disease and evaluate statistics for both the given period and the entire scope of monitored breeding.

Monitoring Possibilities

The system can be equipped with anywhere from one to four contact-free thermal cameras, depending on how many monitoring locations are economically efficient. The system is sufficiently protected for the demanding nature of intensive livestock production.

Normal system operation is maintenance-free, and the cameras only require calibration once every two years.
